AА Ghanaian Lawyer, Joseph Lawrence based in the United Kingdom has donated over 200,000 assorted books to the Zambia High Commission to help re-store public libraries in Zambia.
And Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom His Excellency Lieutenant General Paul Mihova (Rtd) described the gesture as amazing and said the donated books will give an opportunity to young people especially those in rural areas to develop a good reading culture as they will have books at their disposal.
“On behalf of the Zambian Government, I would like to thank you for the noble donation of the books. This is a rare gesture, and we really appreciate it. Our public libraries are in need of books. Even in today’s high-tech world, traditional hard copy books still have the amazing ability to offer inspiration, insight, and education. Books change lives and your donation will positively change many lives in Zambia,” he said.

High Commissioner Mihova said most Zambian public libraries have few or no textbooks and no supplementary materials for reading beyond the school curriculum adding that the donated books will support and enhance the resources and services public libraries system provide to the community.
And Mr Lawrence said he decided to donate the books to Zambia because he wanted to support Zambian public libraries and provide re-creative activities like reading in communities.
